In 1978, the St. Moritz municipality's Sports Committee met for the first time to offer a summer sports event as a counterpart to the Engadin Skimarathon. The Engadin Skimarathon had been a well-known as a popular winter competition for several years, so now a highlight for the summer should follow suite.

Almost 240 participants took part in the first event. Until 2020 the Engadiner Sommerlauf enjoyed to host over ten times the amount of runners each year.

2021 is the time for a new age. The Engadiner Summerlauf moves to St. Moritz Bad, Ludains and becomes the St.  Moritz Running Festival. Additionally to five running category, the festival village invites runners and public to enjoy culture, culinary highlights and promises a lot of fun over the weekend.
